Neil had the entire week off during July 4th. Since we had already traveled once this summer, and we are preparing to leave again for AZ next week, we decided to make the week a fun stay-cation. Thus, I scheduled each day with fun things like visiting splash pads, touring down town SLC and Temple square, and visiting "This is The Place Heritage Park." The kids had a blast learning about the Pioneers who settled the state of Utah.
They panned for "fool's gold," toured Indian teepees, and made arrowhead neclaces.
We rode the kiddie train and the big park train. Kade was in Heaven
They learned how Pioneers plowed and planted their gardens.
We spent several days swimming in our neighbor's pool. They have a sandbox full of beach sand and seashells next to the pool where Kathryn spent a lot of time. She also went down the water slide several times.
On July 3rd, we had a hot-dog BBQ with Uncle Sam, Aunt Julie, and Uncle Spencer. After dinner we headed to the Golf course to watch fireworks. It was so nice to lay on the golf course grass, listening to the band play while eating kettle corn, and let the canyon breeze cool us off as the sun went down. As is expected, the kids fell asleep by the time the fireworks actually started at 10:30 PM.
Independence Day was spent just like it should be. We went to the Freedom Festival parade in Provo. That was followed by a BBQ and water fight at Grandma Bennion's house. The day ended watching America's favorite pastime at the SLC Bees Baseball stadium. They put on a spectacular firework show at the end. We felt very much a part of the show as burning embers and ashes flew into our eyes.
