Andersen Family Reunion 2014

As always, the Andersen family reunion was a blast. It was full of fun with brothers, sisters, cousins and Grandpa and Grandma. Needless to say, we were a little tuckered out by the end, but it was so worth it! However, we are happy to report that for the first time when gathering with our large family, we all came home healthy with no colds or illnesses!
The pond next to the cabin was CRAWLING with crawdads. It was pretty disgusting.
However, it made for great entertainment as Neil showed the kids how to fish for crawdads. There were so many of those hungry rascals that all it took was dipping a crawdad leg tied to fishing line into the pond and pulling a big honker out! Grace and Kade got such a kick out of it.
We scheduled a photographer to come out on Thursday evening to take our family photo since all 40 members of the family were present. With it being monsoon season, we saw several rainy days, and the weather was quite unpredictable. As the time came nearer, we were getting pretty nervous that the photo would get rained out. However, our prayers were answered and we were blessed with a beautiful backdrop for the photo--rain-free.
As, usual, our kids were elated to spend a whole week playing with cousins. They talk about getting together at the cabin all year long, and after each reunion, they start talking about the next one.
Everyone got to go for a horse ride in the arena. Everyone, except for me. I am too pregnant to be riding horses right now. Kathryn couldn't stop giggling and smiling on her first ever horse ride.

Each Aunt/Uncle took a turn doing some kind of activity to entertain the children. It was awesome because the kids were always engaged, and it actually allowed the adults more free-time when they were not in charge of an activity. One of the fun things Neil did was take the kids to the woods to build this awesome fort. They LOVED it. We also brought all the equipment and supplies to make and launch water bottle rockets. That activity was another big hit, for both boys and girls.
Looking back, this was the best reunion we've had yet. We caught up on each other's lives, spent quality time together, and had a valuable family counsel which brought us closer and helped us understand each other better than before. And, did I mention how pleased we were about not coming home sick this time?
