Pioneer Day Half Marathon and Pioneer Pete 1K

Neil had just four days after returning from the cabin to do some final training to prepare for his Pioneer Day half-marathon with Sam. Honestly, his training was pretty sparse this time. With all the busyness of added responsibilities at work, buying and selling a house, packing, and helping his pregnant wife at home, it was pretty impossible to train for a half-marathon. I was proud of both him and Sam for doing it anyways. Luckily, neither of them were injured, and they still got pretty decent times.
Back in the Spring, when Grace heard Neil was doing this race, she wanted to do it too. They have a "Pioneer Pete 1 K" for children where they chase a Pioneer and an Indian around the Bountiful Rec Center.
Of course, when Kade heard Grace was doing the race, he begged for us to sign him up too. Neil occasionally took the kids to the Mueller Park Jr. High track in the evenings to help them train for the race.
However, when it came time to actually run, Kade changed his mind and decided he had no interest in racing that morning. I tried everything from pep-talks to bribery to get him to go, but he just wouldn't budge. I think the real issue was that he thought Neil was going to do it with him. We didn't realize until the night before that the kids' race would happen at the same time Neil was running his half-marathon.
Thus, Grace did her very first race totally on her own. No brother, father, or mother was there to run with her, and she finished in the top middle half of the pack. She was so proud of herself, as were we.
And this is just a random photo of a very cute little girl promoting her Daddy's company which I took today.
