We have had a really fun Autumn this year. The festivities began with a trip to Cornbelly's at Thanksgiving Point. There were so many fun things to do there that we could have played a full day.
They had everything from corn mazes, tractor train rides, potato sack slides, hay pile slides, bounce houses, entertainers, and a pumpkin princess play land.
Needless to say, the kids were in Heaven. They behaved so well, too. Never running off or whining that they were cold.
We ended our night with hot chocolate and an ice cream sundae at the Thanksgiving Point café.
The fall colors were actually a little dull this year compared to last. We got hit with a few cold spells early in the season which made some of the leaves fall or discolor prematurely. However, this tree out our front door at our neighbor's house was stunning! I loved looking at it every time I passed the window. It was a sad day when these leaves dropped.
The youth in our ward hosted a Halloween carnival for the Primary kids. Grace invited a friend to come with and they played each of the games two or three times.
Kade, however, was content sitting at the coloring table all night long. He is becoming quite the little artist lately. He takes his time carefully coloring inside the lines and uses lots of different colors now.
Three days later, Grace's elementary school also had a carnival. They had games in every classroom and it took quite a while to navigate through the crowd to check them all out. She invited the same friend to come along to this carnival and it was so fun! It was a girls night because Dad and Kade were in Provo at a BYU football game. After the carnival, we came home and the girls played school, dress-up, and "house" until 10 PM when the friend's mom came to pick her up.
Kade was so excited to go to the game with Dad he could hardly stand himself. However, the excitement must have worn him out, because he feel asleep on our way to Dad's office to meet him.
This year, we carved the kids pumpkins to match what they were dressing as for Halloween. Thus, Grace's pumpkin was Cinderella's carriage. Pretty clever, right?
Neil did an impressive job carving, free hand, "Jake" the Neverland Pirate out of Kade's pumpkin.
The kids carving pumpkins is about the same as the Boy Scouts making Pinewood Derby cars. The kids don't actually get to do much... I guess it's just as much fun for the parents to do as it is for them.
On Halloween night, I did my best to get some good nutrition into the kids' tummies before we went out to collect a bunch of candy. It worked! On the menu was "Eyeball soup" (butternut squash and chickpeas), jack-o-lantern cheese bread, Cat Eyes fruit salad, and "Ghost Blood" to drink. I should do cute stuff like this more often. Maybe the kids would eat more dinner without so much prodding.
We joined up with Scott and Mollie Dallas for Trick-or-Treating. With so few children in our neighborhood, everyone was so excited to see our kids!

One of our neighbors had a "Mad Scientists" set up for the kids with potions and tricks.
Our next-door neighbors had the best Trick-or-Treating in town. They go all out with talking skeletons, pumpkin patches, and creepy crawlies. This year they added singing pumpkins to the mix. Most nights before bed in the nights leading up to Halloween, we sat with the kids on a hay bale, watching the pumpkins sing a loop of four songs. It never got old!
