Harvest Time!

It is time to harvest our Arizona garden! It is the middle of November, and while most of the northern states are covered in snow, we are just beginning to harvest our garden in the desert. The corn is ready and tastes delicious. We've eaten green beans and carrots from our garden too, and they may be a little small, but it is a delight to pick our dinner straight from the back yard. We signed up to let members of our Church tour our garden for our Stake Harvest activity. As soon as I told Neil that I signed us up to participate, he got nervous about how the backyard looked and he started planting random seeds on the north side of our house. This is what is coming up:

Anyways, the people who came to check out our garden were impressed with how big our mystery squash-looking plants are, and at how tall the corn is. However, they must not have noticed how skinny and weak the corn stalks look. I try not to be too critical, because this is our first time ever planting a garden, but Neil and I were slightly disappointed that the garden isn't a little more robust.

With that said, we are just grateful to have a garden and a fun back yard to play in .  It is becoming the funnest place in the neigborhood. Everyday after school, four or five little girls and boys ask to play in the back yard. It's funny how much the 8 to 10-year-old kids in our neighborhood love playing with Grace. She can't even talk yet and they all still think she is such a hoot. However, with a face like this, who wouldn't love this girl:
