California Trip

My Mom, Sister, Grace and I took a road trip to California this month to see my Grandparents and attempt to retrieve some family history records. We had a blast! The trip was full of sunshine and perfect weather. On our first full day, we drove to LA with Grandma and Grandpa Bowman to try to get into the "Price Is Right" gameshow, but we were about 6 hours too late to get into the show that didn't start for another 2 hours. Who knew? Instead of the gameshow, we toured around the Farmers' Market nearby. It was a beautiful place to walk around. We ate lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, where Gracie tasted her first lemon. Her sourpuss face entertained us the whole time we waited for our food.
The day ended with a drive down Beverly Hills to see all the 'beautiful people' and a stop at the LA temple. I had never been to this temple before where my parents were married 28 years ago, and what a BEAUTIFUL temple it is! The spirit we felt just walking around the grounds was a memory I will never forget. Most of all, it was fun to watch my Mom enjoy coming back to the temple where she was sealed to her parents after she joined the Church as a teenager and where she was sealed to her husband and future children for all eternity. In the picture below, note the figure eight, 'eternity' sign in the sky just above the Angel Moroni. How symbolically timely!
Day Two was spent at Sea World! The most enjoyable part of the day was watching Grace's reaction to all the shows and animals she saw. She was actually more interested at looking at all the people around us than watching the shows.
The day ended with dinner in Temecula with my Aunt Susan, Cousin Breannon, and our Grandparents. It was a small celebration for Grandpa's 80th birthday.
Day three was a "wannabe-in-Disneyland" day. Knowing that Grace couldn't go on any of the rides at Disneyland, and one of us would have to sit out each time, we did the next best thing. We shopped around Downtown Disney for most of the morning. Grace had fun glaring at everyone she didn't know. Maybe someday we will get to actually go in the park!  The beach was supposed to be a 25 minute drive from where we were in Aneheim, so we decided to go introduce Grace to the ocean. Almost two hours later we concluded that Fourth of July weekend is NOT a good time to go to Newport beach. The traffic was nuts and so were the people! She loved the sand and the waves, and she was braver than I was about getting into the water.

For the Fourth of July, we barbecued at Grandma and Grandpa Bowman's house with Bre. Later we went to a Sixty-sixers baseball game. There's no better place to be on the Fourth than watching America's favorite pastime, eating popcorn, and playing on the lawn. The Sixers won and they held a great fireworks show at the end. I think Grace was too tired to really think much of the show by the time it started, but she was great through the whole thing.
As I mentioned before, Grace behaved like an Angel the whole weekend. Our days were so busy that she napped whenever she had a minute in her stroller or carseat. At night time, she never protested to sleeping in the pack-and-play even though we were still chatting right next to her. What a trooper! Even though we were never able to get the family history records we were after, we created lots of memories that will go down in our own future family history forever!
