Grace was the VIP (Very Important Person) in her Kindergarten class at the beginning of this month. You would have thought she was queen for a week, because she came home from school beaming each day. She got to teach her classmates about her favorite things, help with the daily calendar, act as the "weather woman" and be the line-leader for a whole week.
Just before Neil left for a week-long trip, we went on a really fun Valentine's date to our Stake Valentine's dinner and dance. We didn't actually stay for the dance, but it was so fun to be together and with friends that I was OK with it.
A week later, Neil was in Orlando Florida for the annual HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Conference. He was on his feet from 8 AM to 5 PM without much of a break as he met with prospective clients and performed dozens of demonstrations of Health Catalyst products. We were happy Neil got to experience HIMSS and that he helped his company be so successful there. However, we were a little bummed that he got to be in Orlando in February while we were here in Utah in freezing temperatures. Actually, we seriously contemplated meeting Neil there for his last day in Orlando and taking the kids to Disney World. But, with the trip being a last minute assignment for Neil, we didn't want our children to think we just pick up and go on expensive vacations without planning and saving first. Thus, we now have a Disneyland funds jar on our counter which we put our pennies in for all the chores we do throughout the week. It has proved to be a great motivator for the kids to do chores around the house, and it is a thrill to watch the money grow.
Over 40,000 people were in Orlando for the Conference alone, and all decent restaurant were booked every night. Thus, the Health Catalyst people ate wherever they could, and it was never a joint that offered fresh salads or vegetables. He had a blast just the same.
Neil's and my favorite part of working for Health Catalyst is the co-workers he gets to interact with daily. The "Chief Fun Officer" (that's what CFO stands for, right?) booked an evening for the company to play at Disney World during their last night there. Pictures speak for a thousand words, and these photos say that Neil had WAY too much fun playing with the boys!
I think he felt bad for having so much fun without us, so Neil took us all to "Jungle Jim's" indoor play land. The kids wouldn't have known the difference between this and Disney World anyways.
