Elder Andersen Returns

While Mom and Dad were in the states this July, they helped one of Neil's siblings move to the East Coast. The day after they got back, (July 14th) Neil's brother, Matt, returned home from his mission in South Carolina. To celebrate, we attended a session in the Temple together and went out to eat afterwards. Mom, Dad, and Matt spoke in Sacrament meeting at Church the next day. (Talk about a busy week!) I'm sure Grace and Kade didn't completely understand all the craziness in our home in July, but they sure enjoy the extra time they get with cousins and especially with their Grandparents. In preparation for a gathering of extended family the Sunday after Mom, Dad, and Matt spoke in Church, Grace got to help Grandma make cookies. In fact, Grace got to help Grandma a lot in the kitchen during the month of July, as we were doing a lot of cooking for all the different gatherings. Mom was so patient with her each time. I learned a few tips about doing the same when I am cooking with her in the kitchen.

Grace also got a lesson from Grandma in painting. Before Matt came home, Mom made a big "Welcome Home" sign to post on the garage door. While she was painting it, Grace creeped along the floor of the kitchen, watching every stroke of the paint brush. For days after that, she begged and begged for some paints. We opted for some water colors, and she has been content ever since. Not only did the kids have fun with Mom and Dad, but they loved having Uncle Spencer around for a while, too. Kade fell asleep on the couch once while he was here, and Spencer had a good time posing him in a picture perfect position. He tried taping a little mustache to his upper lip, but Kade woke up right as Spence was doing it. Kade wasn't a happy camper for the rest of the afternoon. Poor Spence learned a couple lessons like that with our kids.
