Christmas took on greater meaning this year, as Grace is getting old enough to understand what is going on. She learned how to say "Jesus Christ" this month because of all the talk we were doing about him. Grace and Kade especially enjoyed playing with their Playschool nativity set together. The coveted piece was always the baby Jesus and I often found it tucked away inside Grace's pink backpack. Below are pictures of some of Decembers highlights:
We had a fun family outing at McCormic Railroad park where we rode the steam engine train through a "winter wonderland" of Christmas lights. Grace and Kade got such a kick out of the train that we rode it twice. Grace still talks about riding the "choo choo" every time I ask her what she wants to do for the day.
The Wilford Andersen Christmas party was a hoot! Santa Claus stopped by to visit and give the kids toys. Kade was very curious about the man in the red suit. He couldn't take his eyes off of him the whole time he sat on his lap! We also had a good time making ginger bread houses and talking to Mom, Dad, and Spencer over Skype.
The most indifferent part about Christmas was that three days later, Sam left to go serve his mission. It was good to see him leave for such a cause, and to have a clean guest bedroom back, but his lack of presence left a void in our home. Grace keeps asking where Uncle Sam is, and I keep expecting him to come in the door with his dirty work clothes on and start rummaging through the fridge. We miss our Uncle Sam. Thank goodness Spencer came from the D.R. to see him off and then stuck around for a week afterwards. Then Kaleb came back from Wyoming to be with us. It feels good to get this unique time with our brothers that we may never get to experience again.
