On November 1st, Neil and I took the funnest trip we have ever hastemmed from the free d; and we only had to drive 5 hours to get there. The idea to go Disneyland tickets we received for doing a service project in our community. However, I have been wanting to go for a long time, so the free tickets were just a perfect catalyst to get us there. Mom and Dad Reichert (and my brother, Kaleb who is living with us while he prepares to go on a mission) babysat our kids for us while we spent 3 days and 2 nights in Southern California. We spent our first day traveling and we met our friends, Kari and Lexi, in Anaheim for dinner. We ate at ESPN Zone in "Downtown Disney" on the night of the World Series. The place literally erupted when the San Francisco Giants won. Since we didn't get much talking in over dinner (however, the food was amazing), we explored the shops and daydreamed about bringing our kids to Disneyland and staying in the beautiful Grand Californian hotel. It was a fun night of catching up with our dear friends.

Day number 2 was the happiest day of our lives (aside from our wedding day, and our children's birthdays, etc.). We spent 12 hours acting like little kids, running from ride to ride and having the time of our lives. Because we were there two days after Halloween, the park was relatively empty. We never waited longer than 20 minutes to get on a ride, and most of the time we strolled right up to the front. This explains why we rode "Thunder Mountain" FOUR times and (our favorite) "Splash Mountain" FOUR times as well. We also ate the best food. I don't remember the food being so good when I was there last. In fact, the last time I went to Disneyland, I was 12 years old. Of course it was the most magical place on earth for me, because I was still a kid. Returning to Disneyland as an adult was just as magical and wonderful for me. I think Neil had a pretty good time too.
Our nephews told us last month that their favorite ride at Disneyland was the "Buzz Lightyear" ride. We understand now why they liked it so much. Laser guns and car controls.. what more could a little boy (or a grown man...) ask for?
It's too bad that our only camera is on Neil's Droid and he didn't trust anyone to take a picture of the two of us for fear they might steal his precious phone.
This is an example of how cheap we are--and how much fun we were having. We were totally alone the last time we went down "Splash Mountain" because no one was in line. Our little log actually got stuck as we ascended up the big hill just before the final dive down the waterfall. That was our cue that it might be time to call it a night.
And this is an example of why I should never let Neil talk me into sitting in the front of a boat ride that crashes into a river of water. Sadly, he talked me into riding just one more time...
Our vacation ended with a whale watching cruise. We got a coupon for half off the price from our hotel. For just $30 we spend 3 hours on a deep sea cruise off of Newport Beach watching huge pods of dolphins, a few sea otters, and a big blue whale spouting! It was the most exciting thing we've ever witnessed in real-life. It's not like we've never watched the Deep Sea edition of the "Planet Earth" series or other movies about whales before. We knew what to expect. But there is nothing like watching a whale come to surface in real life.
