March was a month full of backyard projects and lots of company! We had a really mild winter and an early Spring, so we have jumped at the opportunity to start improving the backyard. First thing on our list was to stain the wooden playground set. It was a perfect job that the whole family could participate in.
Next on the list was to fill our sandbox with fine beach sand. A dump truck delivered one ton of it and less than half of it fit in the sandbox. The rest has been shared with neighbors and tucked into corners of the yard.
It feels like Spring time is really on it's way. The kids have already started playing in the water!
Our first visitors were cousins from AZ who came to Utah to ski during their Spring Break. There wasn't much snow left, but we enjoyed spending a whole day with them. The next week, Grandma and Grandpa Reichert came to visit.
They brought with them a kit for building two birdhouses. The kids worked so well together to nail them all together and paint them fun colors.
Developmentally, the two youngest seem to have progressed the most. Kathryn is starting to express all sorts of emotions and communicates them very clearly. She still pushes her babies around in her stroller and follows me around as I take care of Christopher.
Christopher turned 6 months old on the 26th, and we celebrated by feeding him his first solid foods. It's hilarious to watch him discover a whole new world now that his diet consists of more than milk.
Our next visitors were James and Shawnne's family. We had the funnest week together! Grace, Kade and Jackson were inseparable as they played non-stop in the backyard.
Jackson visiting from AZ was the best birthday present Kade received on his Birthday. He arrived the day Kade had his party.
Instead of trying to entertain the kids with party games and activities, we broke down and rented a bounce house for them to play in. Surprisingly, we still had to do a lot of entertaining. Not every little boy there thought the bounce house was as cool as Kade did.
Neil and Kade worked together the weekend previous to his party making a pinata out of paper machee. It looked like a mix between an easter egg and a basketball, but it made a really fun addition to the party.
These three were all napping during the party, so they cleaned up all the left-over treats and popcorn after all the guests had left. Tommie refused to look at the camera...
We ended up having all our Utah family over for Kade's birthday dinner. He chose his favorite: homemade macaroni and cheese. I made a two-layer ice cream cake out of mint chocolate chip and vanilla ice cream with a thin brownie crust. Kade's request for the 4th year in a row was that the cake have a basketball on it.
