General Conference, SLC Fall 2011

Instead of watching General Conference on television this year we decided to visit Salt Lake City and watch the Conference live from Temple Square. Another incentive to traveling to Utah that time of year is the chance to see Neil's parents who fly in from the Caribbean to attend the Conference held twice a year. Grace and Kade were beside themselves with the excitement of spending time with her Grandparents. We flew into SLC on Thursday with Mom Andersen. She had to immediately rush to a meeting, and we tried to take naps in her hotel room while she was gone. When that didn't work, we took a walk around temple square and looked at all the beautiful flowers and water fountains there. Once Mom returned, she was exhausted from the rigorous schedule she had had earlier that week. She and Grace laid down to take a nap, but Kade was fussy. I took him out and walked up and down the hotel hallways until he finally dozed off. When I returned to the room, I saw Grace and Grandma holding hands, sleeping on her bed. Neil met us in SLC and we headed off to a cousin's house for dinner that night. The next day, we went to the Cannon Center to eat lunch with James. Later, we attended the BYU vs. Utah State football game. Dad Andersen met us there and we had a great time cheering on the Cougars in a very intense win over the Aggies. Saturday, we watched General Conference from one of Neil's Aunts homes in Bountiful where we were staying for the weekend. Sunday, we attended Conference in the Conference Center. Between sessions, we got to eat lunch with Mom and Dad at the Cafeteria for the General Authorities. I think Dad really enjoyed introducing Grace and Kade to all of his friends there. It was cute to watch.

Monday, we spent the afternoon with Mom in Provo Canyon. It was a gorgeous day, perfect for playing outside. Dad and Neil went to a meeting at BYU and met us at the park just long enough to play a few minutes before heading back to the Y with two of our nephews. They met Neil's brother in the Student Athlete Building where they got a tour of the football facilities.
The boys met us at Grandma Bennion's house. They had huge grins on their faces because they came back from the tour with these awesome BYU hats.
We were so grateful for the chance to be in Utah this Fall. Being there makes us miss the beautiful seasons and our Bennion family members there. It was a great time.
